As a premium-quality fuel, NEXBTL renewable diesel meets the toughest requirements set by automotive manufacturers and is clearly better in terms of quality than conventional FAME-type biodiesel. Blending NEXBTL renewable diesel with fossil fuel improves the quality of the end-product, while blending large quantities of FAME-type biodiesel results in a lower-quality fuel.
NEXBTL renewable diesel is produced by hydrotreating vegetable oil or animal fat, and is classified as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). In terms of its chemical composition, it is a hydrocarbon comparable to fossil fuel. As a result, it can be used as such in all modern diesel engines or blended with fossil diesel. It is also compatible with existing distribution and logistics systems and does not require any additional investments to be made to these systems.
Field trials have shown that using 100% NEXBTL renewable diesel reduces vehicle emissions significantly compared to conventional sulfur-free diesel:
- fine particulates are 33% lower and the number of particulates is also smaller
- nitrogen oxides (NOx) are 9% lower
- hydrocarbons (HC) are 30% lower
- carbon monoxide (CO) is 24% lower, and
- polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are also reduced.
