Peg 400 is used in compounds for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, synthetic lubricants, cutting oil, hydraulic liquids and polish products. Peg 400 is also used for production of synthetic resins, plasticiser and adhesives, and in the paper, rubber, fabrics, printing and metal industries.
Peg 400 (Polyethylene glycol) consists of condensed products from ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol. The numerical suffix gives an indication of average molecular weight. Peg 400 is a non-volatile liquid at 20°C. It has extremely low toxicity and is used in several different pharmaceutical products. Peg 400 is soluble in water and in several organic solvents, such as alcohols, glycols, glycol ether acetates, ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons. Peg 400 is less soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons and ethers.
