MEG is used in antifreeze agent for cars and is a raw material in alkyde, polyester and resin production. It is a base product in explosives, a component in heat transfer liquid, hydraulic and lubrication oil and a key component in fabric softener, anti-foaming agent, disinfectants and moisture preserving agents.
MEG is a colourless, odourless liquid. It is soluble in water, certain alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and glycol mono ethers. It is insoluble in hydrocarbons and esters.
